Diets don’t work, and neither do cookie-cutter nutrition plans. That’s why I fully personalize each and every nutrition plan.

About Susan

Once upon a time, I was busy raising a family and running a successful custom weaving studio in Seattle. But at some point it wasn’t enough. I yearned not just to provide people with wonderful objects, but also to help them feel wonderful on the inside—more energetic, healthier, more positive. When the mother of a childhood friend pointed out I’d always been interested in taking vitamins and eating well, I knew I’d found my next big thing. I signed up for nutrition classes at Bastyr University in 1994 and never looked back.

A graduate of and faculty member of Bastyr College in Kenmore, Washington, I am licensed by the Washington state Department of Health. I offer a wealth of experience in nutritional planning, supplements, and simply what works and what doesn’t. I’m also a dynamic lecturer at workplace seminars and public wellness events.

And I’m a co-author—with my friend and colleague Dr. Lisa Price, ND—of the soon-to-be-published booktitled COOKING THROUGH CANCER TREATMENT TO RECOVERY: Simple, Nourishing, and Flavorful Recipes to Prevent and Decrease Side Effects at Every Stage of Cancer Therapy.

My approach can be summed up in three ways: lasting lifestyle changes come from baby steps, diets don’t work, and it’s not only about the food. Please contact me to arrange your first nutritional counseling session or discuss having me present to your group.

+ My Philosophy

  • Want to make a lasting change? It’s better to do it in baby steps. I don’t expect or want clients to completely change their food habits overnight. Instead, I support people in a gentler way to improving their food lifestyle.
  • Diets don’t work, and neither do cookie-cutter nutrition plans. Your cultural background, your lifestyle, your food preferences, your medical needs—all this needs to be taken into account. That’s why I fully personalize each and every nutrition plan.
  • It’s not just about food—it’s about working together to empower you to reach your goals. I thrive on being of service to my clients, to sharing my wealth of experience to support people to achieve their nutrition goals and feel good doing so.

  • About My Practice

Nutritional Counseling is a healing profession that is accurately represented by its name. With half the emphasis on food and the other half on counseling, a good nutritionist knows that eating is profoundly tied to the daily habits of our lives. ...more

  • Testimonials

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. This is the first holiday season in my life that I walked by every cookie, cake, piece of candy, pie or anything else, and never thought ONCE about eating any of it. I didn't ignore it and pat myself on the back for being good. It just didn't register. - Fiona R.
The difference about Susan and the other nutritionists I saw is, she really listened to me and did not try to push me into something I knew wasn’t good for me. She was sensitive to the way I eat, my cultural background and the limitations of what I could and could not do. I lost lots of weight. - Daisy K.
Susan solved a problem that had plagued me for year-I was hot all the time! She realized that I was pre-diabetic and when I changed my diet by adding protein with meals and snacks, I stopped being hot all the time. The tests she recommended supported her suggestion and my glucose went down and my energy went up. - Teresa V.
I am really enjoying all the food changes to protein-rich foods. I never feel hungry anymore! Getting my food allergies tested had alleviated my tummy upsets. What a difference! - Allison D.
My co-workers were going crazy with my constant coughing. How would I ever find out I was allergic to carrots, dairy and other foods without your help? My coughing went away and my co-workers would like to take you out to lunch! Even my MD allergist said he was taking his son off certain foods to help his allergies. Thank you Susan. Boeing worker
