Counseling Services

Susan Gins, MS, Certified Nutritionist provides personalized nutrition counseling in Seattle and Issaquah, Washington.  Her current clients include those diagnosed with food allergies, joint pain, fatigue, hypoglycemia, diabetes, high cholesterol, irritable bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis, autism and cancer.  Susan also enjoys working with menopausal woman, pre & post lap band surgery counseling, and anyone wanting to improve his/her nutrition.

Susan’s approach to nutrition counseling is highly individualized, and combines objective assessment with emotional support.  She utilizes computerized diet analysis, body composition analysis, and blood laboratory values whenever necessary (cholesterol glucose levels, and food allergy tests) to assess your current nutritional status. In addition, Susan prepares shopping lists to help you along on your journey to a healthy lifestyle.

Below is a list of Susan’s nutrition counseling services.

Contact Susan at nourish1@comcast.net TODAY to find out how you can make healthful dietary practices a part of your life!

Initial Nutritional Evaluation (90 minutes):

The primary purpose of this visit is for Susan to get to know you . . . your current lifestyle and dietary habits, your medical history, and your health goals .  Susan takes a comprehensive medical and social history, helps you prioritize your goals, and gives you at least 5 recommendations to get you started.

Follow-Up Visits (45-60 minutes):

Approximately two weeks after your initial nutritional evaluation, Susan meets with you to discuss what worked for you, to reprioritze your goals, to review the results of the computerized diet analysis and laboratory tests (if available from your physician) and to offer additional recommendations.  Keep in mind that making changes to your diet and lifestyle can take time, and relapses are a frustrating fact of life!  Susan encourages her clients to schedule office visits as needed for support and new ideas.  Susan also knows that sticking to any health program for a whole year (not to mention a lifetime) is very difficult.  So, count on a follow-up visit six months into your program to help keep up the momentum.

Telephone and E-mail Support (15-30 minutes):

Susan is available between office visits by telephone or e-mail to answer your questions, hear your concerns, and provide moral support as you strive to achieve your goals.

Shopping Tours:

Susan recognizes that changing your eating habits can be an overwhelming endeavor! To help you become familiar with new foods, Susan accompanies you to the supermarket of your choice to help you select foods that are supportive to your nutritional goals, easy to prepare, and affordable.  She also provides education on reading food labels and offers meal planning and food preparation tips.
